If there is anyone to tell us how to dress for baby shower, it’s Rachel Zoe and she gave us the 411 on all of the do’s and dont’s. “One might assume that attending a baby shower means you no longer have the opportunity to exercise your fashion freedom. Au contraire, I think the celebratory occasion is the perfect opportunity to showcase your latest fashion finds amongst a group of your greatest girlfriends. Typically for a baby shower, you will find yourself in a brunch or lunch setting, so when it comes to your wardrobe, think: early afternoon apparel-something light and airy. If you choose to go with a dress, opt for a classic belt wrap silhouette. The shape is timeless and ultra feminine, plus it will flatter almost any body type. Don’t be afraid to get creative and shop for one in a floral print-florals are not just a thing for spring! Of course, since you are in New York and chilly weather is a concern, you can try a printed jacquard sweater dress-talk about versatility and functionality! If you prefer separates instead of a dress, I recommend a long printed skirt paired with a chicly subtle button-down blouse. In terms of outerwear, I propose two fab options-a little leather jacket or an elegant trench coat. The leather jacket is great because it will add some unexpected edge to your ladylike ensemble, plus it can help transition your outfit from daytime to night, if needed. Of course, you can also never go wrong with a traditional trench, they are a classic chilly weather staple. For footwear I suggest you try a pair of heeled loafers; it’s a huge trend this season. Pick one in a masculine shade of cognac that will juxtapose beautifully with the feminine tan color of your leather jacket or trench coat. If you’re not into the idea of heeled loafers, go for suede platform booties instead. Also, if it’s extra chilly the day of the baby shower, you can outfit your stems in a pair of black opaque tights for a look that is cozy and sophisticated. Since this is a daytime event, I wouldn’t go too crazy in the accessories department. Adorn your neck with a chunky gold necklace or a wrap scarf for added warmth if desired. Finally, carry all your day’s essentials in a textured satchel or classic tote and you are set to go,” says Rachel.

This is a great outfit for a baby shower in the fall. You can wear some printed trousers, a fun hat, and spice things up with some funky vintage jewelry. The Dannijo earrings go great with these Fall essentials from Bona Drag. #ootd #outfit #outfitgrid #fallstyle

Here’s another outfit with a romantic, feminine vibe that would be right at home at any baby shower. A ruffled, soft blue top is combined with a pair of cropped, houndstooth pants for an interesting twist on a menswear look. Gray accessories keep the look grounded and not too mushy sweet.

So, I had one of those Oh No She Didn’t! moments in my life when I was invited to my first destination wedding when I was 20.  My mother has not been in my life since I was 9 years old, so there are a lot of lessons that I have to learn the hard way…including knowing what NOT to wear to a wedding. I know it may seem like common sense, but as a 20-year-old going to a destination wedding in Puerto Rico, I had NO IDEA that it’s frowned upon to wear white to a wedding. I showed up in what I thought was the perfect summer destination ensemble and blushed when people at the resort asked me if I was the Bride-To-Be. It wasn’t until weeks later when I came home, developed the pictures and showed my girlfriends what I wore that I realized why everyone was asking me that.  My friends were practically screaming, “THAT’S what you wore to the wedding?! Didn’t anyone EVER tell you NOT to wear white to a wedding because it takes away from the bride?!!!”  I was devastated and later sent a card to the Bride to express my embarrassment. Luckily, she was amazing and understanding, and she truly didn’t mind. It was a hard lesson to learn, but wearing white to a wedding (or a shower) is a HUGE mistake for any guest to make.  For that reason, I’ve put together a little “What to Wear” guide so none of you have to learn the way I did….

Guest on March 21st, 2012 According to People’s own article, the menu at Jessica’s shower included her “favorites” of fried chicken, mac n cheese, deep friend twinkies, oreos, etc. She has tweeted and/or been quoted throughout this about her atrocious eating habits during the pregnancy (butter on poptarts .. really?), which is not only bad for her (obviously), but is also bad for the baby. Pray for her? I think I’ll be praying instead that she doesn’t pass on such unhealthy eating habits on to her baby girl.

A lot of these comments annoy me. It doesn’t matter is Jessica is a millionaire or not, people should be allowed to throw her a shower. Maybe their friends and family members wanted to take part in this tradition and buy something for the baby. Let them have that and don’t pick it apart. Jessica makes a pretty penny and a lot of that is given to charity on a regular basis. She’s involved in a lot. I don’t think that means she has to have nothing the rest of us have had or that she shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy her pregnancy like most women. It annoys me to see other people say how someone else should spend their money. She didn’t buy her own gifts, she didn’t throw her own shower… I know that not everyone is as able as they are and I get it, but by the same token, I bet not everyone making these comments finds a few dimes to donate on a regular basis- or better yet- once a year when you get your tax dollars.

Just because the world has gotten super casual doesn’t mean you should show up in your boring, everyday clothes. No matter where the shower is held, the dress code for what to wear to a bridal shower calls for something a little special.

Soft neutrals,  pastels, and blush colors fit the mood of a bridal shower and happen to very chic for Spring.  If you feel too washed out in these shades, go for a slightly deeper color but choose happy shades. Browns grays, dark navy, dark green and all black don’t feel light and joyous at a bridal shower.
